Our Story

Titli, which means butterfly, was the loving nickname Geetika had for Akanksha, which is now the logo and central theme of SitByCare, as a tribute to Akanksha.

Akanksha was a freshman at University of Chicago and wanted to become a child neurologist. She was born & raised in Houston, Texas.

SitByCare was founded by Geetika Sinha with a deeply personal purpose: to make meaningful companionship easier to find and help people feel less alone.

Geetika holds a Master’s Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Houston. The inspiration for SitByCare, however, came from one of the most difficult experiences of her life.

In 2017, her only child, Akanksha, became critically ill and spent two and a half months in the intensive care unit. During the long days and nights by her daughter’s side, Geetika experienced firsthand the isolation that prolonged illness can bring to both patients and their families.

“For the first time, I saw and experienced how lonely a patient’s life in a hospital could be,” Geetika recalls. “Even while going through my own trauma, I imagined a more interactive and human environment—where people could have someone to talk to, share a moment with, and find comfort.”

Geetika lost Akanksha in 2017, but the experience left her with a lasting realization: sometimes simply having someone there can make a meaningful difference.

That realization became the beginning of SitByCare.

Years later, the pandemic brought loneliness and social isolation into everyday life on an unprecedented scale. It reinforced what Geetika had first recognized during Akanksha’s hospitalization: the need for human connection is universal.

Whether someone is living alone, going through a difficult time, new to a community, looking for someone with shared interests, or simply wanting company for a conversation or activity, companionship can make everyday life feel more connected.

Geetika saw an opportunity to use technology to make those connections easier to find.

That vision became SitByCare—a platform connecting people seeking companionship with people who enjoy providing it.

Members can find Companions for virtual or in-person companionship based on their needs, interests, and preferences. That might mean sharing coffee or a conversation, taking a walk, enjoying a hobby, playing a game, attending an activity together, or simply spending time with someone who is happy to be there.

At the heart of SitByCare is a simple belief:

Human connection matters.

“I am incredibly grateful for how far SitByCare has come. This journey has been possible because of a dedicated team and the many people who understood, believed in, and supported my vision. Their time, commitment, and belief in what SitByCare can become have helped turn a deeply personal idea into a growing mission centered around human connection.”
